The media arts centre FACT and a study on its collaboration with an artist on an example of the Separate Systém film
Kovandová, Alžběta ; TŘEŠTÍKOVÁ, Helena (advisor) ; KRATOCHVÍL, Jaroslav (referee)
FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) is a charity media arts centre in Liverpool, UK. It is an institution where multiple art and creative activities take place. FACT consists of three galleries, a cinema, a video-production department and a café. Furthermore, many workshops and social activities take place here as FACT aims to engage local communities in its programme. This is achieved through collaboration with local artists, who create their artwork with the support of FACT, and who engage various demographic groups such as children, war veterans or the elderly in their work. One of those programmes is the Veterans in practice (VIP) which aims to help the veterans. In collaboration with Liverpool’s veterans and FACT, the director Katie Davies has created a film called The Separate System about veterans who have found themselves in prison after leaving the armed forces. This bachelors’ thesis shows the history and operations of FACT and its respective departments. In the second part, it addresses the topic of war veterans and shows how the collaboration between FACT, the artist and the veterans works on an example of The Separate System film and activities of the Veterans In Practice programme. This thesis is based on not only literature and internet sources but also on interviews between the author and employees of FACT and the director Katie Davies.

Cultural Centres
Adolfová, Barbora ; PROKOP, Petr (advisor) ; KAŠPAR, David (referee)
This thesis is concentrated on cultural centres built between years 1960 and 1990 in the former socialist Czechoslovakia. Six cultural centres have been chosen and analyzed to conclude the purposes they serve as well as the programs they offer. These chosen cultural centres are run as municipal organisations financed from the town budgets. The six towns where they are located are similar to each other in terms of their history, size and the time when their cultural centres were built. All of these centres share difficulties with the lack of cultural interest of local citizens, bad technical shape of the buildings in question and low budget. The aim of this thesis is to compare the functioning of these six cultural centres and conclude whether being directly funded and influenced by the municipal councils has a positive impact and should serve as a model for cultural centres or should be replaced by a different one. It also focuses on cooperation between the management of cultural centres and municipal officials, cooperation with other local cultural institutions and cultural centres from different towns.

Černá, Tereza ; KAŠPAR, David (advisor) ; SVOBODOVÁ, Doubravka (referee)
The present diploma thesis discusses the use of accompanying programmess as a resource for building audiences for theatres as well for some other types of culture institutions. Its aim is to present an overview of the current situation for developing this kind of activities in the Czech context, both from the perspective of the institutions involved, and from the perspective of culture politics. The introductory section of the present work defines the key notions of the issue of accompanying programmess, above all defining the accompanying programme itself and its relation to the main programme. The thesis extensively discusses strategic documents and cultural policies relevant both in terms of the European Union and the Czech Republic. This section forms the main part of the thesis, outlining as it does both political and legislative premises which can play a crucial role for the future orientation of cultural institutions in this area. Further on, I discuss the introduction of accompanying programmess into theatre practice in the form of the activity of theatre coach, and define target groups and forms of programming. Last but not least I also look at research studies that have been conducted in the field, regarding the conditions for audience development in Czech cultural institutions. The conclusion of my thesis presents a case study of the accompanying programmess at the National Theatre, Prague. This section focuses mainly on the activities of the Drama and Ballet ensembles, their different approaches to this issue, as well as their collaboration in the form of a joint platform ND+, which is intended in the future to be an umbrella for all the accompanying programmess of all of the National Theatre ensembles.
